Quality valves deserve an optimum packaging

Alfa Laval LKM A/S, Kolding is manufacturing quality valves, and has got a total packaging solution made of EPS and cardboard for one of its top products. A solution, which not only protects during the transport, but which also considers the need of the final consumer.

"One of our "bestsellers" is a valve, used at brewery, dairy and the pharmaceutical industry all over the world. Every year we are forwarding thousands of this type of valve", the projectleader Niels Brøndumbo from Alfa Laval is telling.

Five demands to the packaging
"It is obvious that when such a strong product must have a new packaging, then a lot of wishes and factors must be considered", says Niels Brøndumbo and continues: "Let me state the most essential demands, which we have found that the new packaging must keep:

The packaging must be cheaper than the warm foam solution we have used so far.
It must be easier and quicker to handle.
It must protect in an optimum way during transport.
The packaging must be a total solution, also including a wrapper of corrugated cardboard.
The final customer must be considered, who does not need all parts of the valve at the same time, and thus must be able to keep the remaining in the packaging for later use.

"The solution lives up to all demands made. And it gives us advantages in the shape of environmental savings, time savings, safer transport, and first and foremost satisfied customers, who have had a good experience", Niels Brøndumbo says.
